In announcing Chris’ appointment, SEC Board Chair Simon Corbell said Chris had built an exceptional team and commended his work with industry experts and stakeholders to develop the SEC’s strategic plan.

“The SEC has a clear strategy for delivering renewable, affordable, reliable energy for all Victorians,” Simon said. “Chris and the SEC team are passionate and committed to delivering on that strategy and are already making great progress. I congratulate Chris on his appointment as CEO.”

Simon also praised Chris’ leadership in securing the SEC’s first investment – a $245 million equity position in the Melbourne Renewable Energy Hub, one of the world's biggest batteries.

“Chris’ appointment is great news for Victoria’s energy transition. We look forward to what the SEC can achieve under his leadership.”

Chris brings a wealth of public and private sector leadership experience to the SEC, including a strong background in energy. Over his career, he has developed expertise in generation development, project financing, mergers and acquisitions, energy markets, utilities regulation, trade practices and commercial contracting.

He has also held a range of public sector leadership roles, including Deputy Secretary at the Department of Jobs, Precincts and Regions and senior executive positions at the Department of Premier and Cabinet, advising on energy, infrastructure, transport, and planning.

His private sector background includes senior roles at EnergyAustralia and as a commercial lawyer at King & Wood Mallesons.
