SEC is a government-owned renewable energy company.
We're helping to accelerate Victoria’s renewable energy transition by investing in wind, solar and storage, and making it easier for businesses to switch to renewable electricity and decarbonise.
We’re also focusing on having a meaningful impact on Victorians – providing households with trusted, simple information, products and services to help them go electric.
Underpinning all of this is our work to attract and build the renewable energy workforce our energy transition requires.
Our progress
As at 1 January 2026, with more than a gigawatt of committed generation and storage assets, SEC is now over 20% of the way towards our 2035 portfolio target – 4.5 GW of new renewable generation and storage.
SEC returned to retailing on 1 July 2025, servicing the needs of the Victorian Government, which accounts for around 5% of Victoria’s total electricity use.
We're also helping Victorian commercial and industrial businesses, retailing 100% renewable electricity and working with them on renewable energy solutions to lower energy costs, build resilience and reduce emissions.
In 2024-25, SEC ran a series of pilots to support households to make the switch to electric appliances. These pilots helped identify barriers to home electrification and a desire among households for a trusted source of information and strong support for SEC help. The insights are informing development of SEC’s ‘one-stop shop’, which simplifies the process of going electric, helping Victorians reduce their energy bills and emissions.
We’ve also engaged thousands of students and developed a comprehensive student education program to inform, inspire and empower them to take part in the energy transition, giving practical examples of jobs and career pathways.
