SEC partnership keeps Docklands Studios Melbourne in the global spotlight

06 October 2025

Sustainability is increasingly front-of-mind for Docklands Studios Melbourne, a world-class production hub hosting some of the biggest local and international film and television projects in Victoria.

With six state-of-the-art sound stages — including one of the largest in the Southern Hemisphere — Docklands Studios Melbourne has long attracted major film and television productions to Melbourne, delivering significant economic and cultural benefits to the state.

On 1 July, Docklands Studios Melbourne took a major step in its sustainability journey, and is now powered by 100 per cent renewable electricity with SEC.

It’s thanks to the SEC’s new chapter as a retailer for businesses, supplying 100% renewable electricity to more than 4,000 government sites across Victoria — including schools, hospitals, cultural institutions and state-owned enterprises like Docklands Studios Melbourne.

Docklands Studios Melbourne Chair, Louisa Coppel, said the move marks an important milestone in the studio’s commitment to sustainability and innovation.

“Our industry is fast-moving and global, and we know sustainability is now front and centre for our screen industry clients.

“By powering Docklands Studios Melbourne with 100% renewable electricity through SEC, we’re not only reducing our environmental footprint but also strengthening our position as a destination of choice for productions that value sustainability,” Ms Coppel said.

Ms Coppel said the partnership highlights how Docklands Studios Melbourne is delivering on its responsibilities as a state-owned enterprise while driving positive outcomes for Victoria’s screen industry.

“This is about taking practical steps that benefit our industry and our state — we’re backing Victoria’s renewable energy future through SEC, supporting local jobs and ensuring our studios stay competitive for years to come.

“As demand grows for greener production options, we’re proud to lead the way and showcase Victoria as a place where sustainability and creativity go hand in hand,” she said.
