Jack’s journey helping build Latrobe Valley’s energy future

17 August 2026

Mirboo North local Jack Burgess-Pincini is playing a hands-on role bringing one of the Latrobe Valley’s most significant renewable energy projects, the SEC Delburn Wind Farm, from concept to reality.

Jack’s journey into the energy sector started early. After finishing school locally, he moved to Melbourne to study at Monash University, initially enrolling in science before discovering his passion for engineering.

“I realised pretty quickly that engineering was where I was supposed to be,” Jack said.

His connection to the Delburn project began while he was still studying, securing an internship with OSMI Australia during the early planning phase.

“It was really cool to see the early modelling work — where turbines would go, how much energy we could generate. Now I’m on site helping bring that to life, which is pretty special.”

Before moving into renewables, Jack gained experience working at a coal-fired power station.

“It was great experience and you really see how powerful that infrastructure is. Now I have the opportunity to further develop my experience in the energy sector and be part of a renewable future.”

Working with Delta Group on the wind farm, Jack plays a key role coordinating on-site works, from managing permits and environmental requirements, to working closely with supervisors and contractors.

“No two days are the same. You’re working across engineering, environmental management, cultural heritage and construction — it’s all connected.”

The 24-year-old says one of the most rewarding parts of the job has been seeing the project progress from concept to construction.

“A few years ago, I was looking at maps and helping plan turbine locations. Now the site’s been cleared and we’re starting to build — that’s pretty exciting.”

For Jack, projects like SEC Delburn Wind Farm are critical for the future of the Latrobe Valley.

“There’s been decades of coal in the region, but as those assets retire, it’s important we have new opportunities close to home.

“No one really wants to leave their community — projects like this mean people don’t have to.”

Living just 15 minutes from site, Jack is close to family and friends — something he doesn’t take for granted.

“It’s been unreal to be home again and working locally. That balance is really important.”

Looking ahead, Jack sees strong growth in renewable energy and storage.

For now, Jack is focused on continuing to build his career in the industry and contributing to projects that will shape the state’s energy future.

“I feel really lucky to be part of it. It’s exciting to think about where it’s heading,” said Jack.
