Many Gippsland students considering a career in renewable energy say they are motivated to help the environment and their communities.

More than 300 secondary school students from Sale, Yarram, Maffra and through to Lakes Entrance, Gippsland considered career options at the Gippy Youth New Energy Job Summit in Sale on 30 August.

The jobs and skills expo was designed to meet the needs of Gippsland’s youth and focused on opportunities brought by Victoria’s transition to renewable energy. Students met experts in energy, training and development, supply chain and consulting, including SEC representatives.

“We encouraged students to consider their career aspirations and how their interests could lead to a career in renewable energy,” said Nadia Bonato, Executive Director, Delivery at the SEC.

“By asking students what a career in renewable energy might look like, we can identify gaps in their knowledge of jobs and career pathways.”

The SEC will use data to understand and improve student awareness of renewable energy jobs, career pathways, and opportunities, including vocational pathways through TAFE.
