SEC and Bunnings launch “Why Electrify” weekends

Victorian households can learn how to save on their energy bills thanks to a new initiative by SEC and Bunnings.
SEC is teaming up with Bunnings to host a series of interactive “Why Electrify” weekends across selected stores. The family friendly sessions will give participants a chance to learn about appliances, see supplier products and take part in fun, hands-on activities for kids.
SEC Executive General Manager, Consumer and Innovation Sumone Chakravarti said the events are about making the shift to electric homes simple and accessible.
“Switching your heating, hot water and cooktop to electric can reduce your household energy bills, while improving your comfort and reducing emissions. By working with Bunnings, we’re bringing this information directly to where people shop and making it easy and fun for households to learn what’s possible,” Chakravarti said.
Victorian households can save as much as $2,000 a year on energy bills by converting an existing home from gas to electricity. This can rise to over $2,700 a year when paired with a typical rooftop solar system.
The “Why Electrify” weekends will run from 11am to 3pm at the following Bunnings locations:
- Narre Warren – Saturday 18 October
- Altona – Saturday 15 November
- Melton East – Saturday 29 November
- Epsom Bendigo – Saturday 13 December
Bunnings Head of Sustainability, Sonya Rand, said as more Australian’s are considering home electrification, the “Why Electrify” weekends can support them in their journey.
“We know many people find home electrification complex, so these events are aimed at helping our customers understand what options are available to them and how they can help reduce cost of living challenges,” Ms Rand said.
“These events are a great opportunity for families to see practical demonstrations, ask questions, and get inspired about the benefits of electrification. So come along and speak to experts and let our friendly team help you with product options.”
